Ramsay Corporation has 3 levels of tests for selecting persons who will
be trained to become journey-level maintenance workers.
Basic Level
The most basic level of trainee, learner, or apprentice selection would include tests of
basic learning skills; for example,
Reading (Form A),
Arithmetic (Form MCY), and
Inspection & Measurement.
These may include different reading content for different crafts or different job content;
for example, Reading (Form A) for mechanical trades, or
Reading (Form IHER) for electronics or instrumentation jobs.
Generally, multi-crafted (electrical and mechanical) trade may use the electrical test batteries.
Intermediate Level
The second level of trainee, learner, or apprentice selection would include tests of basic learning skills,
but would also include reading prints or schematics, tool knowledge, or basic electricity. Examples are shown below:
Mechanical Repair Apprentice Battery:
A basic skills test battery measuring 5 different areas: Reading, Arithmetic, Measurement,
Reading Prints & Drawings, and Basic Mechanical Knowledge. These 5 tests, in multiple-choice
format, are more demanding of job knowledge than a basic skills battery, but less demanding
than our Mechanical Maintenance Trainee Test.
Electrical Repair Apprentice Battery:
A basic skills test battery measuring 5 different areas: Reading, Arithmetic, Electrical
Print Reading, Troubleshooting & Problem Solving, and Basic Electricity. These 5 tests,
in multiple-choice format, are more demanding of job knowledge than a basic skills battery,
but less demanding than our Electrical Maintenance Trainee Test.
Advanced Level
This level of trainee, learner, or apprentice assumes that a person has had one year of
training or experience as a maintenance employee. It also assumes that with an additional
year of training and experience, the person can become a journey-level maintenance worker.
Examples of these tests are shown below:
Mechanical Maintenance Trainee:
For use in selection mechanical trainees with one year of training or experience in
the following areas: Hydraulics: Pneumatics, Print Reading; Welding; Power Transmission;
Lubrication; Pumps; Piping; Rigging; Maintenance; Shop Machines; and Tools, Materials & Equipment.
Electrical Maintenance Trainee:
For use in selection electrical trainees with one year of training or experience in
the following areas: Motors; Digital & Analog Electronics; Schematics & Electrical Print Reading;
Control; Power Supplies; Basic AC/DC Theory; Construction, Installation & Distribution; Test Instruments;
Computers & PLC; Mechanical, Equipment Operation, & Hand & Power Tools; and Electrical Maintenance.
Multi-Craft Trainee:
For use in selecting electro-mechanical trainees with one year of training or experience in the following
areas: Hydraulics & Pneumatics; Welding, Cutting & Rigging; Power Transmission, Lubrication, Mechanical
Maintenance, & Shop Machines, and Tools & Equipment; Pumps, Piping, & Combustion; Motors, Control
Circuits, and Schematics & Print Reading; Digital & Analog Electronics, Power Supplies, Computers & PLC,
and Test Instruments; and Basic AC/DC Theory; Power Distribution, and Electrical Maintenance.
